Discover the Art of Kobido

What is Kobido Massage?

Kobido is a traditional Japanese face massage with a centuries-old history. It is based on ancient techniques that have been passed down through generations in Japan and is often described as a natural face-lifting treatment.
Unlike a standard facial massage, Kobido works not only on the skin, but also on the facial muscles, connective tissues and energy points of the face. It combines deep relaxation, lymphatic drainage, muscle stimulation, lifting techniques and acupressure to refresh the face, release tension and support a more lifted, radiant appearance.
Many clients choose Kobido when their skin looks tired, dull or puffy, or when they feel tension around the jaw, forehead, temples or eyes. The treatment may help soften facial tension, improve circulation, reduce puffiness and soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Kobido is not only a beauty treatment — it is also a deeply relaxing ritual that brings a sense of calm, balance and wellbeing.

Stages of the Kobido Treatment

1. Tissue Relaxation
The treatment begins with tissue relaxation, which prepares the face for the deeper stages of the massage. Before lifting techniques can be fully effective, the facial muscles and connective tissues need time to soften and release accumulated tension.

This stage helps relax tight facial muscles, especially around the jaw, forehead and temples. It also improves tissue mobility and creates a feeling of comfort and relaxation.

2. Lymphatic Drainage
The next stage focuses on gentle lymphatic drainage. Using soft, rhythmic movements, this part of the massage supports the natural flow of lymph and helps the face feel lighter and fresher.
Lymphatic drainage may help reduce puffiness, fluid retention and facial congestion, while refreshing tired-looking skin and supporting a more rested, radiant appearance.

3. Lifting and Stimulation
The lifting stage is the most dynamic part of Kobido. Faster and more intensive techniques are used to stimulate the facial muscles, energise the tissues and support the natural contours of the face.
This stage may help improve the appearance of firmness and elasticity, boost circulation and leave the skin looking fresh, lifted and revitalised.

4. Acupressure and Deep Relaxation
The treatment finishes with gentle acupressure applied to specific points on the face and head. This final stage helps calm the nervous system and allows the body to shift into a more relaxed, restorative state.
Acupressure may help release remaining tension, reduce stress and mental fatigue, support circulation and bring a feeling of balance and wellbeing.

After Kobido, many clients leave not only looking more refreshed, but also feeling lighter, calmer and deeply relaxed.
